MFC Work Displayed at Bridges Art Show

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, in acknowledgement of National Indigenous People's Month, the Toronto Catholic District School Board's Equity, Diversity & Indigenous Education Department opened the Art Show "Bridges" with a special celebration at the Catholic Education Centre. The art exhibition is a testament to our community’s storytelling spirit, our commitment to raising awareness about First Nation Métis and Inuit topics and our desire to make meaning through a Catholic lens.

It pays homage to Indigenous elders, artists and poets. Their stories resonated with us and served as a source of inspiration. The narratives of our mixed media pieces unveil Indigenous history and worldviews. Our personal beliefs and Catholic values are reflected in these works.

The seven artworks featured in the exhibit explore many themes. Messages are conveyed in symbolic fashion. Those who visited the exhibit were challenged to decode a sobering message about marginalized youth, spurred to rewrite the nature narrative, reflect on the personal and public covenants they make, respect the resilience of indigenous people and learn that shared values bind.

This exhibit was curated by Rita Sarra-Macchiusi and Donna Sistilli.
